Renault Korea have announced that vehicle exports in June 2026 (1,251) were 21.3% lower compared to May 2026 (1,602), and a whopping 45.7% lower than in May 2025 (2,737). The June 2026 export figure was comprised of Grand Koleos (135), Arkana (76), and Polestar 4 (1,034).
According to Renault Korea, exports have recently been 'affected by adjustments in shipping schedules due to unstable international conditions', which likely alludes to issues with exporting the Grand Koleos to markets in the Middle East during the US - Iran conflict.
The Grand Koleos - which in January 2026 achieved 977 exports to the Gulf states (including Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates) and Latin America (including Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Brazil) - appears to have taken the brunt of this decline.
The Polestar 4 - which Renault Korea produces under a contract arrangement with Geely (which has a 34% ownership stake in Renault Korea, and 24% stake in Polestar itself) - appears less impacted, as these vehicles are exported to Europe as part of a strategy to avoid EU tariffs on Chinese made vehicles.
The Grand Koleos (a mid-size SUV) and the new Filante (a large-size crossover SUV) are both built on the same Geely platform and are currently LHD only - so filling the void via exports to RHD markets like Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia is currently not an option. The RHD markets still rely on the Koleos/QM6 (built on the old Nissan X-Trail platform) which still appears to be trickling out in progressively fewer numbers from Renault Korea's manufacturing plant in Busan.
